Hello, interwebs followers and surfers :)
I decided to start this blog to help me process and document my journey through the yoga teacher training program, which begins tonight. At this point I’m not quite sure whom I’ll share this blog with (if anyone); maybe it’ll be for my eyes only…
I’d be lying if I said that I’m not scared about starting this program. Normally I’d be nervous anyway, but I heard some rumors of what our first two days will involve, and, well, I’m terrified. More on that to follow, if the rumors come to fruition.
Beginning tonight until I receive my Yoga Alliance 200-hour training certificate on Sept. 11, 2011, I will be training with approximately 35 other yogis for an entire weekend every month. And yes, it’s an entire weekend: 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday; 12:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Also, during the next seven months, I am required to take at least three yoga classes per week, one of which must be taught by the owner of the studio, who’s also our training teacher. (I already attend at least 4-5 classes every week, so this isn’t a biggie.) Our required reading list is intense; it’s comprised of 16 books such as the Bhagavad Gita, Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners, The Breathing Book, Living with the Himalayan Masters, and more. I feel like this is essentially two years of grad school crammed into seven months.
Needless to say, this will be an interesting journey…
